WHO BY HOWELL
» General
Create Digital Music has posted a clip from an old BBC show about the making of the Doctor Who theme. The clip focuses on the hard-rocking 1980 version recorded by Peter Howell, not the classic, haunting 1963 version realized by Delia Derbyshire.
In my book, Howell's version is not quite as stellar as Derbyshire's, but it's still one of the very best TV signature tunes of the '80s. I rank it right up there with Jan Hammer's for Miami Vice, Glen Larson's and Stu Phillips' for Knight Rider.
(The new season of Doctor Who starts in 10 days. I'm looking forward to Daleks in Manhattan!)
